Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) in the Dobermann - University Project

Grace Francis - FdSc Animal Studies

Using the report "A Prospective Genetic Evaluation of Familial Dilated Cardiomyopathy in the Doberman Pinscher" by Dr. K. Meurs et al (2007) as the basis for my study, and looking again at the data collected in that report, my university project considered whether it is possible to contruct a breeding programme to eradicate Dilated Cardiomyopathy in the Dobermann. A survey sent to Dobermann owners and breeders constituted part of the project.

I received a distinction for my work, marked at 76 out of 100, and cannot thank everyone enough who participated in the survey and made this project a success. I was generally surprised and humbled by the kindness and helpfulness of the worldwide Dobermann community and feel that this wonderful breed must surely have hope for the future if it is championed by such caring and dedicated individuals. THANK YOU.
